Garry Monk, Francesco Guidolin and now Bob Bradley have all been dismissed from the Liberty Stadium in a little more than twelve months meaning that once again the odds compilers are being asked to produce a list of who could be next to take on what could soon be classed as one of the hottest seats in Britain.
Chris Coleman, Gary Rowett, Harry Redknapp and Ryan Giggs were all instilled at the front end of the odds for being next with other names in the frame including Alan Pardew, Roy Hodgson and even Jaap Stam was being linked according to reports overseas.
As the board sat down to start the process that will eventually lead to a new man being appointed – possibly even ahead of the Bournemouth game on Saturday – there was much discussion on the forums and social media in terms of who people would like to see in charge at the Liberty.
And it will be clear that no matter who is appointed that they will have a huge job ahead of them both to get in the quality that we need in January against the problem of who wants to go to a club looking nailed on for relegation but also that there is no one clear name that everyone wants to be backing.
Last time around there was the link with Giggs who the club spoke to but the appointment never happened with Giggs claiming that our ambition did not match his whilst Coleman and Rowett both have credentials but are seen by many as not necessarily what we need at this point in time,
Redknapp put himself in the frame this morning on Talksport which saw him come in on the odds but there is nothing at the moment to suggest that we have anything other than his own self interest to take this one forward.
What needs to happen is that the club take the opportunity to speak to all potential candidates and understand their ideas for the club, requirements going forward, ability to attract the right players (at the right price) but also understand whether they will give us the identity that we used to have but have long since lost.
Our league position will hamper us slightly in attracting people but we should also remember that we are a Premier League club and with the right man in charge we could just retain that place for another season.
