The old saying of actions speak louder than words could not be more true on occasions like this and it is fine for Cork – or any other player for that matter – coming out and making these media utterings but it will mean nothing unless they actually change the way that they play in games and actually look as if they want to be part of a side that compete in the Premier League.
“We are all disappointed because Bob is a good guy who worked very hard to turn things around here,” said Cork seemingly putting to bed a myth that all the players hated him but clearly they were not enough behind him to actually try and fight for points on the pitch,
Ultimately the buck in football will always stop with the manager but the players clearly have to shoulder a level of responsibility for their performances over the past 18 months which more often than not have been of a sub standard level and have cost now three managers their position.
So the time for talking has probably passed and Cork and his team mates need to turn their words into performances on the pitch.
“Unfortunately our results have not been good enough” added Cork, “and the players take their share of the blame for that because Bob picked the team and then it’s our job to go on the pitch and pick up points.
“It’s a disappointing situation, but I wish Bob well in his next job.”
Let’s see just how easily he can put these words behind him and pull some performances out.
