The German side confirmed the news on their website this afternoon after a weekend of speculation that suggested the Swans were close to appointing the former Derby boss as their manager.
The statement read “Assistant coach Paul Clement (44) has requested FC Bayern’s permission to talk to Premier League club Swansea City about a potential appointment as manager. Bayern head coach Carlo Ancelotti and the FC Bayern Mรยผnchen AG board of directors have granted this request. As a result, Clement will not travel to the Doha training camp along with the FC Bayern squad.”
The Swans are believed to be wanting to confirm the appointment of Clement before tomorrow’s clash away at Crystal Palace that could see them really cut adrift at the bottom of the table and will highlight the size of job that Clement has ahead of him.
Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth meant we went into 2017 bottom of the division and four points from the last safety place, currently occupied by those opponents tomorrow – Crystal Palace.
