Is That Our Window Closed?

There may be just the small matter of a loan move again for Marvin Emnes but other than that it looks like we will go with a squad that has been strengthened by the capture of four players in the window and the departure of just Taylor despite rumours amongst other players.

Add to that I guess the fact that we have kept hold of Llorente and Sigurdsson and it is a reasonable window although I am sure most Swans fans would have liked to cap it off with the arrival of a centre half to tighten up the division’s most generous defence

Narsingh, Carroll, Olsson and Ayew are all players who can – and will – compete for a first team place in the coming weeks and months and – as we saw with the debuts of Carroll and Olsson – are players capable of making a difference to the way that we play and approach games.

That difference is of course helped by the presence of Clement and his coaching staff who have certainly looked as if they have improved the Swans so far and maybe we should be trusting their judgement on the choice of central defenders even if it is something that most of us will be disappointed by?

The January transfer window is always a challenge for many clubs and more so clubs that are stuck at the wrong end of the table. We have already seen – same as we did last year – some clubs throw what appears to be silly money for over inflated fees which doesn’t always prove to be the recipe for success and it has certainly not been the case that we were prepared to do that.

Hull have certainly weakened in this window and I am not sure that the players that Palace have got and that Sunderland are linked to are big upgrades on what they already have which could play into our hands very nicely.

What we need to do from here is to build on the momentum that the brilliant 3-2 win at Liverpool can give us and back the manager’s judgement on the players that he has bought in.

Time will tell whether it will be the right moves but the early evidence was promising and that gives us hope for the future.
