Swansea 2 Leicester City 0 – Magnificent Mawson Sets Swans On The Way

The Swans reached the halfway stage of the season on New Years Eve with just 12 points on the board. Six games later and they have doubled that tally as we recorded a fourth win in six games to leapfrog the Champions who are starting to look like one of the relegation favourites as we move in the opposite direction.

Whilst the Swans have gained twelve points in 2017, Leicester now have just one and have failed to find the net in the six games they have played in the league this year.

The result looked in little doubt from the moment that Mawson volleyed home a Fernandez header across the area into the net and by the time Martin Olsson scored his first Swansea goal in first half stoppage time then the match was over as a contest.

The difference that has been instilled in this team since Clement took over is incredible and he dark days of the form at the end of December now seems a distant memory (and not one we would want to repeat) as we climb the table towards the magical safety mark.

Clement has placed a structure into the side and a belief in what we look to achieve. The back unit looks much more solid and the players that were much maligned under Bradley are now drawing the rave reviews that their performances deserve.

And the performances of Mawson are key within all of that. Not only does he look to have the ability and fight that we lost when Ashley Williams left but he has a knack of scoring goals as he added to his strikes at Crystal Palace and against Southampton. His finish today would have made any striker wish they could do the same and his sprint the length of the pitch again showed how much he is enjoying his time in the Premier League.

Mawson though was not alone in being outstanding today, you could single out any of the player for praise such was the way we won such an important game and Clemens’s reaction at the end of the game said to everyone just how much this game meant to the side.

With Burnley and Middlesbrough next to visit the Liberty there is a real belief in the side right ow that was missing before the turn of the year and there is no reason to believe that we could not win those and also get results at Bournemouth and Hull in what is now a hugely important run of matches.

The good times are coming back
