Build The Team Around Gylfi

I dread to think where we would have finished this season were it not for the man who has taken part in 22 of our goals this season between assists and his own strikes and for me that makes it essential that we do everything we can to retain his services this summer.

The good thing about Gylfi is that he is the kind of player you can build a team around. He has the skill and vision to spot runs that others make and he can play the role that makes him pivotal.

If we can get the right players in around him (and we have some of them already) then I firmly believe that we could see even more from the iceman next season especially when you consider his stats from this term in a side that has struggled pretty much from the goal.

I do see and understand the logic that says we could sell him and use the money to fund a spending spree but quite simply for me the sale of Gylfi would see us searching for 22 goals next season and it is difficult to see how we can do this.

It is almost one of those situations where we should almost immediately look to see if we can talk him into staying and if that means a new deal should be on the table then so be it. Players that Gylfi do not come around that often and we should ensure that we do everything we can to hold onto him.

Gylfi will be all too aware that he has left once and his career stalled a little when he was at Tottenham and that may put him off a move to either Everton or Southampton. There were rumours in January that a move to China could be on the cards and that may be a harder one to fend off given the riches that are on offer there but is it about money bearing in mind how well paid he will be at Swansea.

Keeping hold of Gylfi is a massive statement of intent for the club and if we manage to do it this summer then it will be the biggest signing we can possibly make and I would love to see him being the central part of our side next season.

We can only hope it happens
