And whilst we may be safe from relegation there is still much at stake tomorrow where it could be possible that – dependent on other results – we pick up more tan รยฃ5m in money tomorrow alone.
Realistically the best we can hope for is รยฃ3.8m by winning and hopefully jumping above Burnley and Watford and ending the season in 15th place. However, for a club with a limited turnover outside of the main TV revenue that will have an impact on the budgets for next season and therefore we have to be focused and look to get the result that will take us to the 41 point barrier.
It should also be remembered that a win would mean we take 13 of the last 15 available and we should not under estimate what that would do to the confidence heading into the close season and you only have to look at Leicester last season to know what momentum from the end of the preceding season can do.
Clearly this is not a statement that a win today will lead us to mount a title charge next time around but we certainly should not sit back and relax now that safety is secured.
The game could be the last bow in a Swansea shirt for the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente but we have to hope not but if it is what a perfect way would it be to finish with goals?
West Brom have been like a side who have switched off since they passed the forty point barrier – they have taken just five points from the last thirty-three available and we should certainly look to capitalise on that form which has seen the Baggies fall away from what looked as if it could have been a sustainable push for a place in Europe.
Indeed it is eight games without a win for our visitors and if we were to win then we will end the season just four points behind them.
It does seem likely that Clement could name an unchanged side for the visit of the Baggies as he will understand the importance of the fixture for some of the reasons highlighted above.
“We’re delighted to have got safe with a game to spare, but we still want to finish strongly.
“The season is not over yet and we want a good performance at home – there’s lots of motivation going into the last game. If we win on Sunday, we could end up with 29 points from the second half of the season. so let’s finish in style.
“I don’t think a major overhaul is required. Of course we want to strengthen, but I don’t see it being a lot of players.
