Sigurdsson was one of the stars of the Premier League – again – last season with a host of goals and assists in what proved to be a successful fight against relegation for the Swans.
And that star billing has caused already transfer links with two of last season’s top 7 clubs as they look to strengthen their own squads for next season.
From the Swans perspective it does not appear that the club want to sell with one of the American majority owners Steve Kaplan saying last week รขโฌลWe all know how important Gylfi is, just as he knows how much he’s valued and loved here,รขโฌย said Kaplan. รขโฌลThere’s been interest in him before รขโฌโ there were some pretty big enquiries about him last summer and in the January window รขโฌโ but we didn’t want to sell him then and we don’t want to sell him now.
รขโฌลAnd neither do we need to sell him. He has three years on his contract and he’s part of our plans going forward under Paul Clement.
“Our aims are to make sure that we build on the successful end to the season and that doesn’t include selling out best players.”
It would be a massive scalp to retain Gylfi at the club through the summer and also a statement of intent that we intend to put the mistakes of the past few seasons behind us and make sure that we do not suffer the same way next season as we did last.
For what it is worth I would struggle at the moment to see Gylfi getting regular game time at both Spurs and Everton and certainly not in the star billing that we are able to give him. Lets hope so anyway.
