Clement – We Have To Improve

The result really does not tell the story of a game that saw the home side have 29 attempts at goal but a combination of good defending and wasteful finishing meant that only 2 of those 29 shots were classed as on target.

And when Clement looked back on the game after it had finished he admitted that he was pleased with the defensive display but knows that his team have to get better if they are to take a 7th campaign at this level into an 8th.

“As a coach you reflect on the performance and this performance wasnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt so good” Clement said in his after match interview.

รขโ‚ฌล“There were lots of positives, of course, but there are also lots of things we have to work on.

รขโ‚ฌล“Southampton are a really good side, but there are some sides we will play this season who are even better than them, so we have to improve.

รขโ‚ฌล“On reflection I am happy to be leaving with a point,

รขโ‚ฌล“It was a hard afternoon for us. We suffered a lot. There were a lot of shots, a lot of set-plays to defend and Southampton had a lot more of the ball.

รขโ‚ฌล“You could say that I must be happy with the defending.”
