Late Goal Costs The Swans Again

Despite a more attacking looking lineup the Swans never really looked like securing a goal with plenty of possession resulting in nothing much of excitement as we drew a blank for the fifth time in seven games so far.

As it stands at the moment watching the Swans week in week out you do start to wonder where the goals are coming from with the lack of pace in the Swans side contributing heavily to our downfall with minimal service coming into whoever we are playing up front.

Today that was a trio of Jordan Ayew, Wilfried Bony and Tammy Abraham but all three of them saw chances hard to come by with minimal quality balls played into them resulting in a couple of long range shots that never really looked as if they could beat Joe Hart.

Instead it was West Ham – equally as devoid of ideas as the Swans – who looked the most likely to score with the aerial threat of Andy Carroll always likely to cause us problems although in fairness Alfie Mawson marshalled him well for most of the afternoon.

Carroll had come the closest to scoring five minutes from time when it was his left foot rather than head that connected with the ball only to see it rebound back off the woodwork and to safety much to the relief of the Swans.

The season now heads into a second international break wth the Swans on 5 points from 7 games, in itself not a bad tally, but the stark reality is we have found the back of the net just three times in those seven games which tells its own story as to how poor our forward play has been.

The constant changing of formation, tactics and personnel I am not sure are helping and we can only hope that Paul Clement can find his best midfield in particular with the right players in the right places.

The recall of Leon Britton today was called for by many but he only managed two thirds of the game before being replaced by Roque Mesa and Renato Sanches is looking like the underwhelming signing of the summer after all the hype that went with us securing his signature.

We now have the two weeks of enforced break before Huddersfield arrive at the Liberty where you start to feel that we have to secure a win before the fixture list starts to get a little more challenging than the one we have experienced to date.

Where are the goals coming from?
