Swans Keep On Getting Worse

From the moment that our captain for large parts of last season headed the opener the game had that feel of watching a team that has run out of ideas and is entirely predictable in everything that we do. Or even attempt to do.

Free kicks go straight to the goalkeeper, corners rarely beat the first man and when they do they go straight to the goalkeeper and crosses all too often are hit with the strength of a goal kick as they sail aimlessly over the attack.

We were 91 minutes into the game when the Bein Sports commentator finally realised that we hadn’t had a shot on target but if we were all entirely honest that was not a real surprise as it followed the pattern of so many games this season. It was finally in he 95th minute that we registered that attempt at target – a Bony header right at the keeper

Majority shareholder Steve Kaplan had flown in for the game and must have wondered why he bothered although maybe it is he that wants to be the one that presses the button formally on yet another manager – the third sacking of their 16 month reign is another one of those things that seems inevitable this evening.

For two seasons now we have flirted with relegation and like Aston Villa and Sunderland before us you know that there is only so many times you can cheat your destiny. We are watching a side that is devoid of passing accuracy, off the ball movement and above all any clue as to what we should be doing next.

The midfield is static and it is impossible to see where any goals are coming from. Leroy Fer, Sam Clucas and Renato Sanches will be lucky to have five goals in them this season and when Tammy Abraham went off there were probably less than five goals in the whole team between now and May.

This is a side not so much sleepwalking towards the Championship but heading there at a rate of knots that could see this season being over before the deadline for the cheaper season tickets have passed. We called it when Monk was sacked and we called it when Bradley went and simply tonight if we are to have any hope then we have to change the manager. Again.

Lessons have not been learnt from what has gone wrong in the past and this team is simply not good enough. It is not so much the fact that we dont create chances but the point that we don’t actually look as if we want to. Whether that is down to the players not being good enough or the manager not good enough to get anything out of the players is almost a moot point.

Watching Swansea City is no longer a pleasure in this culture but feels more of a chore and big things are required to be done if we want that to change.
