Come In Leon, we need you again…

It seems to be almost every season since 2002/3 we have looked to Leon Britton to make the difference to the side. From the great escape of 2003, to his play off semi final goal right through to some top quality performances last season Leon has been consistently excellent for the Swans in over 500 games for the club.

And it is a player like him – despite his advancing years – that we should turn to at this point in time to get control of the ball in midfield which has been something that we have sadly lacked it seems in the last weeks.

We all know what Leon brings to the side. He brings a composure to get the ball and set the team moving together with a desire to win it back should we lose it. More importantly he makes opponents uncomfortable which is something that our defensive set up of late has failed to do.

Lon’s last appearance in the league was back in October, whilst he has featured only once since Carlos arrived at the club in December but, in the same way that Paul Clement did last season, the manager should look to the importance of the player and the way that he can lift not just his teammates but the fans as well.

With some tough tests ahead of us (Everton, Man City and Chelsea) then a leader like Leon for me is just exactly what the team need to give them a boost.

The difficulty that we have as a squad at the moment is that we have tried and failed a few times to replace Leon. Nobody has come in and be able to b as effective as he is in the role that he plays and I’m not sure that many can argue that we look better with him in the team than we do without him.

Whatever happens at the end of the season we have to do what is right and finally replace the man who will be 36 in September. But for now, whilst we have him lets use him and bring him in on Saturday. I think he will be the person that makes the important difference.
