If we carry on like that…

Jordan Ayew, Andrew Ayew, Narsingh, Mawson and Fernandez can all count themselves unlucky not to have scored and Tammy’s lack of confidence was clear when he blazed over towards the end of. the game as we chased down an Everton side who had been given a massive dose of luck in the first half.

It was a brilliant double save from Fabianski that looked to have kept Everton at bay only to see the second parry come back into the goal from Naughton who would have known nothing about it and goal line technology showed that the awarding was the right decision.

It was certainly not what we deserved as we should have been out of sight by that point with some good saves, lucky deflections and wrong decisions costing us the chance to be at least two goals clear by that point as Carlos set a side up clearly intent on getting three points.

After the frustrations of the last few weeks it was the right call today to go back to the flat bak four and it made such a difference to the way that we approached the game. From the early stages we were taking it to Everton ad they weren’t sure how to manage that threat.

The Ayew brothers were a constant thorn in their side and there was more than one occasion where us closing down the defenders was causing concern and panic in the Everton ranks as they looked to clear their lines.

The visitors offered nothing and the frustration of the away fans was met with silence for a large part of the game although there were some suggestions towards the end from them as to what Sam Allardyce should do next as they switched to their own three central defender set up much to their annoyance,

When the goal was perfectly executed from Jordan Ayew it was the least we deserved on a very warm afternoon in Swansea and the relief around the Liberty at that point was clear for all to enjoy especially having watched Southampton throw away a two goal advantage earlier in the afternoon.

The game was a complete contrast to last weekend at West Brom where we were too defensive and with three games left at the Liberty it should be a sign for how we need to set up although I maintain that we will be safe before the final two home games of the season in May.

There is much that we can take away from this performance as a positive and we should do. Next week is away at the Champions elect (who could be crowned on that day) and nobody is expecting anything to happen for us up there. But then again nobody expected us to beat Liverpool or Arsenal either. Stranger things have indeed happened.

Much better this time and much more belief that survival is just around the corner.
