Predictable Headline – Can We Blunt The Blades?

It was 7th May 2011 that the Swans played their 46th and last game of the 2010/11 season with a 4-0 win over the Blades at the Liberty stadium to end the campaign in 3rd place with 80 points on the board.

What happened in the three games that followed is now a legendary part of Swansea City history as they became the first Welsh side to reach the Premier League. Now, seven years on, we are back at this level after a disappointing season last time around that saw us lose our Premier League place following a pathetically poor end to the season.

It has led to a summer of change at the Swans which has seen 13 players depart and just 3 arrive to date but that was necessary to reshape the finances of the club following such a disastrous drop in income following relegation.

The difference between the Championship and the Premier League may be reducing in terms of the football but the gulf that it creates in terms of finance seems to be widening all the time. Especially when you factor in our seven year stay it becomes more painful hence the large number of outgoings we have seen this summer.

And under a new manager and with some new players it will be interesting to see how this beds into a performance tomorrow with optimism low amongst Swansea fans ahead of the game with the latest site poll on here suggesting that more than 1 in 2 Swansea fans believes that a relegation struggle could well be on the cards again.

Last time around at this level it was our form at the Liberty where we gained 50 points as opposed to 30 on the road that saw us finish 3rd and Potter will be hoping that his side will fare better this time around starting tomorrow as we make our Championship return live on Sky in the tea time kick off.

It will seem strange being back at this level and I have to say that I have never been so far removed from matters at the club that I have been this season but now we are here the interest is back and I can’t wait to see us get started.

Football is back. Let’s see what the next 9 months will hold
