Dismal Swans surrender home record

There is no doubt that we stepped up big time against Leeds in midweek but that was a performance sandwiched between two piss poor performances against Birmingham and now Bristol City where we have just not been at the races with a severe lack of effort evident from some players today.

You really couldn’t get two much more different home performances inside four days as today we were brushed off the ball easily in midfield, surrendered possession far too easily in vital areas and were found wanting with misplaced passes and the same lack of creation that cost us a Premier League place back in May.

By the time the game was a minute old we were a goal down thanks to one of those sloppy balls in midfield and a lack of awareness at the back that gave the visitors one of the softest goals that they will score all season and it was a first minute from which we never recovered.

It took over 40 minutes to have a shot at goal and just three on target in the ninety minutes sums up the kind of performance this was. It wasn’t a Bristol City side that was flowing with talent just a Swansea side that was devoid of creativity. Again.

In Carrol, Fulton and Celina we have a midfield that will always be brushed off the ball easily – more so when you add in Makay and Asoro into the mix. Our two wingers seem to have already suffered with the check and return disease that affects so many of our team and that stunts anything that looks remotely dangerous. With McBurnie up front we need wingers to function to get the best of him and simply in the first half ours didn’t. The introduction of Montero at half time threatened to make a difference and it did for a while but all too often we either failed to get the ball to him or he drifted in and out of the game waiting for the pass. Good player but certainly not the answer to our complete lack of creativity.

At the back we look solid enough and, not for the first time, we can be thankful to Mulder for keeping the scoreline down but the damage was done in the first minute which was frustrating.

Most football fans can accept their team getting beat but when they are beaten so easily without seemingly pushing to try and at least get something out of the game then it is really frustrating and annoying to watch.

When we have a throw in the lack of movement looking for a ball is frightening to see and when the keeper has the ball in his hand the only outlet is ever a central defender as most of the midfield turn their back to him. And we defend set pieces in our area without an outlet for a quick break that keeps us continually under pressure.

Overall we have 8 points from 5 games which is a decent enough return but we need more of the Leeds performance and less of the shit sandwich that surrounded it. The question is which is the real Swansea City?

We shall wait and see
