Into The Lion’s Den

After taking eight points from the first four games, the Swans have been bought down to earth in the past week with two 1-0 home defeats – Bristol City last weekend and a much changed team against Crystal Palace in midweek also seeing the Swans slip to defeat

The Sky TV cameras will be in attendance for the third time in our three away trips this season and the fourth time in our six fixtures ahead of the first international break of the season that starts for us at the final whistle on Saturday. Clearly, Potter will be hoping that he will get the same result as the last time we featured in the Saturday early evening kick off – a 2-1 win at Sheffield United started his Swansea career with a bang on the opening weekend of the season.

However, for that to happen it needs to be a much improved performance compared to that one last week where we meekly surrendered our unbeaten start to the season having been unable to recover from the disappointment of conceding inside thirty seconds of kick off.

That improved performance almost certainly will need that changes need to be made particularly in midfield where we surely have to see Leroy Fer coming back into the side you would assume at the expense of Tom Carroll. Personally I would also like to see us return to the formation that served us so well against Leeds which would mean Kyle Naughton coming into a three man back line with Olsson and Roberts turning into wing backs to support the attack.

The loan window will close today with Potter already hinting that there will be no more additions which remains a concern as to the depth of the squad, maybe not by numbers but certainly by quality and it becomes clearer that he is pinning his faith on the youth and hunger of the squad to serve him this season.

รขโ‚ฌล“I think we have good competition in all areas of the squad, and for us itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs about working hard to get the maximum out of the group of players we have” Potter said at his press conference this week.

รขโ‚ฌล“When the window is open, the clubรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs responsibility is to keep looking at who is available, but as the head coach I want to make sure we are improving the guys we have.”

This certainly rings true as mentioned earlier in terms of the increase in quality needed from last week’s performance and we have to hope that we see that increase this weekend.

Potter’s big decision really though is whether to stick with Mulder in goal or whether to re-instate Nordfeldt after his recovery from injury. My gut says that Nortdfeldt will come straight back in but that part remains to be seen.

New signing Carter-Vickers will also travel with the squad but is unlikely to get anything other than a bench place to start his time at Swansea.

The game at the New Den kicks off at 5.30pm live on Sky Sports
