Cooper was unaware of Peterson sale

On a good day for the Swans with another home win over Millwall, the gloss was taken a little off the win with Steve Cooper’s after match admission that he was ready to include Kristoffer Peterson in his matchday squad until he was sent a text by Julian Winter telling him not to.

Cooper was speaking after watching two defenders – Jake Bidwell and Ben Cabango – grab goals to take his side’s tally to ten from the first twelve points available and head into the international break 4th in the division.

Earlier in the day the news had broken that Peterson – one of Cooper’s first signings at the club – was heading out of Swansea to Fortuna Dusseldorf with the club just about recouping the fee that we paid for him a little over twelve months ago.

Given Peterson’s lack of game time under Cooper it appeared on the face of it to be good business for the Swans and freed up some money in the budget to bring in some new blood – one of whom in Viktor Gyokeres made his debut this afternoon as a second half substitute.

But Cooper’s comments after the game suggest that he was unaware of the sale of Peterson when he said “Well I don’t know the reason behind it,

“I had a message off Julian Winter this morning to ask for him not to be involved. He was in the squad and would probably have been on the bench, and that’s as much as I know about it to be honest.

“I think all clubs are different, with who makes decisions.

“I just got the instruction this morning, not to involve Kris, and what happens next with him I’m not too sure.”

Cooper has already gone public over his need to bring in new players in the past week or so but on things like this we need to be tight and not sense any frustration over transfer policy
