Manager reactions following Swans defeat

Steve Cooper could only find himself disappointed at the end of an afternoon that saw his side’s unbeaten start to the league season come to an end as Huddersfield left the Liberty with all three points thanks to a 2-1 victory.

Andre Ayew’s penalty was the high spot of the game for the Swans who were guilty of wasting some very good chances but just not posing enough of a threat to Huddersfield who could have also scored more goals had they proved to be more clinical in front of goal.

It meant a hugely deflating end to a week for Cooper that saw him secure several new signings for his squad in the last days of the transfer window although only Kasey Palmer featured today due to the timings of the signings being completed.

“The performance was good enough to win the game,” said Cooper.

“But we’ve done the obvious thing of conceding two really poor goals. One or two people not quite doing what they should be.

“If you do that, then you run the risk of allowing teams to get up the pitch and into dangerous areas, and it’s everything that I don’t want the team to be out of possession.

“But, at the same time, we’ve missed so many clear-cut chances, it’s probably the most clear-cut chances we’ve created in a game so far, including the likes of Wycombe where we were fairly comfortable in the game.”

Meanwhile, his opposite number Carlos Corberรกn said that his side had put in an ‘unbelievable effort’ to get the three pointsย โ€œWe knew that we had to work a lot today to get something positive from this pitch.

โ€œPlayers need to play with this solidarity, spirit and experience to be competitive.

โ€œTo be competitive we need to support our teammates, support them in mistakes, help them and have that togetherness.โ€
