Squad game gives Joel his chances

The Swans defensive record may not have been as strong in the last few games as it has been all season, some of which is definitely down to a forced rotation of the side in recent weeks.

Just 2 clean sheets have been kept in the last 7 after a run that saw us conceded just 15 times in the opening 27 games of the campaign.ย  We shipped four goals at Huddersfield and three at home to Bristol City but still have a strong record with 25 goals conceded, beaten only by Watford (24) and matched by Norwich.

Steve Cooper was forced into another defensive change at half time on Tuesday when Marc Guehi was taken off as a precaution against injury which gave Joel Latibeaudiere the chance to come on and help earn the Swans a point in what was a largely dull encounter.

Game time has been somewhat lacking for Latibeaudiere – he has just four starts since joining last summer from Manchester City – but the youngster says that he will be ready and able to help when needed.

The Swans first choice three man central defensive line up is almost certainly Guehi, Bennett and Cabango but with the intensity of games and the injuries that we have been suffering it seems almost certain that Joel will get more chances in the last few weeks of the season as the Swans bid for a place in the Premier League.

โ€œPersonally, I want to get some more games and minutes under my belt,โ€ said Joel.

โ€œIโ€™m learning every week and I feel like I am contributing well in training and giving a good account of myself in the games.

โ€œI understand itโ€™s going to be difficult to break into the team and play every game.

โ€œSo, I know Iโ€™d have to be patient, and I have faith in the gaffer. I just want to help the team anyway I can.โ€
