Ben Cabango signing his new contract will prove to be excellent news for the Swans as the defender put pen to a paper that will take him through to the summer of 2025.

The central defender has proved to be one of the real highlights of this season as he has put in a series of top notch displays as well as showing a goalscoring side to his game scoring 4 times, each of them helping the Swans to a victory.

His form has also seen him earning Welsh caps and the signs are all there for a long career ahead of him.   For Swans fans we will naturally hope that it becomes a long career with us, much of which will probably depend on our ability to win back our place in the Premier League at some stage although personally I do not think that has to be this season for us to retain the services of Ben.

It is though excellent news for us that he is prepared to commit his immediate (and relative long term) future to the Swans and from a club point of view it also means that the length of the contract protects our investment in the player should be continue to progress in the way that we all anticipate he will.

Speaking via the club’s official site after signing his contract Cabango said “It’s massive for me to have got a new contract sorted, and it just gives me that bit of security for the long term,” said Cabango, whose previous deal had been due to expire in 2023.

“I feel I have really improved since coming into the first-team environment, and I want to continue to do that because I feel there is still an awful lot for me to work on if I am going to be the player I want to be.

“So, the challenge for me is to keep working hard with the coaching staff – who have been so good with me and so supportive – and look to put in good performances for this club.”

It is certainly not inconceivable at the moment to think that we could see Cabango at the heart of the Swans defence for many years to come (assuming we gain the success we desire on the pitch) and credit to all at the club – and of course the player – for today’s news which is a welcome boost after the disappointments on the pitch at Bournemouth.
