Ayew left out of Ghana squad

There was great news for the Swans yesterday evening when it was reported that Andre Ayew had been left out of the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against South Africa and Sao Tome e Principe.

There were some fears a few weeks back that Ayew could miss some Swans fixtures as a result of this clash and the fact that under current Covid-19 rules, anyone who has visited South Africa within 10 days before they travel is banned from entering the United Kingdom.

With Ayew being Swansea’s leading scorer and us becoming goal shy then it was certainly a real worry for Steve Cooper and his side but the Swans boss confirmed at his press conference yesterday that Ayew would not miss any games when he saidย “He won’t miss any Swansea games, that’s for sure.

“Plans are still getting firmed up. Everybody’s in agreement over what may or may not happen, especially Andre.

“That will come to light over the next day or two but everything’s under control. Everybody should benefit from Andre.”

Last night the Ghana squad was confirmed and the name of Ayew along with his brother Jordan and other UK based players in Arsenal midfielder Thomas Teye Partey, Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp, Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu, Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey, Reading right-back Andy Yiadom and Brentford attacker Tariqe Fosu were all missing.

The omission of all these players it is believed is related to the UK Covid-a9 travel guidelines and the natural reluctance of clubs to release the players for travel when a further absence would be required at the end of the international break and it is great news that common sense prevails and certainly good news for our promotion hopes.
