Steve Cooper has revealed that leading scorer Andre Ayew will link up with Ghana next weekend after it was initially reported that he would stay in Swansea having been left out of the international squad.

Cooper now says that, in line with the other UK based players, he will travel to join up with the squad ahead of their game with Sรฃo Tomรฉ and Prรญncipe and then return to Swansea for our game against Birmingham just five days later.

Ayew was left out of the squad for the game with South Africa which is one of the re-list countries which would have meant a further period of quarantine on his return to the UK something the clubs over here were naturally keen to avoid.

The Ghana squad was named last week and the name of Ayew along with his brother Jordan and other UK based players in Arsenal midfielder Thomas Teye Partey, Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp, Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu, Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey, Reading right-back Andy Yiadom and Brentford attacker Tariqe Fosu were all missing.

However, Cooper now confirmed what the position isย โ€œAndre wonโ€™t go to South Africa and play the game there,โ€ he told Wales Online.

โ€œHeโ€™ll join up with the team after that when they go back to Ghana and play the second game in Ghana and then return back in good time for the preparation for Birmingham.

โ€œWeโ€™ve spoken to other clubs in similar situations and theyโ€™re doing the same thing. Thatโ€™s how itโ€™ll work.โ€
