On loan Chelsea defender defender Marc Guehi missed out on England Under-21s last match of the international break tonight amid discussion that he had picked up an injury ahead of the game.
After playing in the opening two games of the tournament for Aidy Boothroyd’s team Guehi was not present today as they beat Croatia 2-1 but still exited the tournament because of the stoppage time they goal that sent the Croats through to the knockout stages on goal difference.
Guehi has been described as a ‘tank’ during the tournament and is certainly key to the Swans promotion drive with few people able to disagree with a statement that says we look stronger defensively with him in the side than we do with him out of it.
Steve Cooper will be hoping for good news when he joins back up with the squad tomorrow although a place in the team on Friday night would always have been maybe unlikely even had he played this evening with just 48 hours rest possible between games and certainly with two games inside 72 hours this weekend ahead of us.
Some of Guehi’s international team mates were asked to pick the strongest player in the squad last week and goalkeeper Josef Bursik said โItโs like having a brick wall in front of you, heโs massive.โ
Former Swans loanee Conor Gallagher added โYou canโt get round him and you canโt move him, so itโs definitely him.โ
Fingers crossed the injury is not one that will cost us his services for any significant period of time.
Guehi described as a tank?
Immovable or cumbersome?
The only game he missed was the only game England won!
