It’s groundhog day as Cooper assesses Preston defeat

It felt very much like groundhog day today as Steve Cooper looked back on the Swans pathetic surrender to Preston at the Liberty this afternoon, a defeat that starts to question whether we may even miss out on a play off spot that just a few weeks ago looked guaranteed.

The Swans now sit just four points ahead of 7th placed Bournemouth and on the back of four consecutive defeats and four consecutive blanks in front of goal are looking nervously over their shoulders with just seven games left to play this season.

The insult almost comes from Cooper’s assessment that “We are not looking enough like we are capable of scoring” which is the master of understatement when you consider that we are now 447 minutes without a goal and just SIX shots on target in the last four games.ย  It is not a case of not looking like we are capable of scoring Steve it is more a case that we don’t actually look interested in trying to score.ย  We pass up the opportunities when they present themselves and have scored just once from open play in the last (almost) ten hours of football played.

โ€œYou could say we have been unfortunate to lose it with the ricochet and how it ended up going in, but thatโ€™s three long throws in three games where we have conceded goals from and lost,” added Cooper.

โ€œWe changed the shape, tried to get more offensive width in the game.

โ€œThere were glimpses of what we wanted that to look like in the second half, but not enough to be the sort of threat we want to be, especially at home.

โ€œIโ€™m not dressing it up or making excuses, we are falling short at the top end of the pitch. Itโ€™s not just the attacking players, itโ€™s the whole team.”
