Morris injury feared to be worse than his last one

Jordan Morris arrived in Swansea on the back of some great optimism on both sides of the Atlantic that he was about to have a real impact on the English game and, from our perspective, that he was about to score the goals that could lift us back into the Premier League.

Those hopes were hit very early on in his Swansea career when he suffered an ACL injury in the Swans game at Huddersfield and had to make an early trip back to the States before undergoing surgery at the start of March.

It was a sorry end to the move and Swans fans joined those in Seattle to hope that he would make a speedy recovery having previously suffered a similar injury before.

Reports though on Thursday suggested that the injury could be worse this time around as was explained by Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey.

โ€œI donโ€™t think itโ€™s likely that heโ€™s going to play for us this year,โ€ Lagerwey said. โ€œItโ€™s theoretically possible, but this knee injury was a little more serious than the first one. We gotta be patient. This is a kid in the prime of his career.

โ€œAn athlete like him whoโ€™s so fast and so powerful, you have to take care of him,โ€ Lagerwey. โ€œYou have to be willing to be patient. Weโ€™re not going to rush him back just as we didnโ€™t the last time. As a result, I think itโ€™s very unlikely that heโ€™s going to play this year. Hopefully that sets him up for a very strong 2022.โ€
