Cooper: “Loads of good returns for us”

Steve Cooper was a happy man having watched his Swans side come from a goal down to earn themselves three points at the Liberty for the first time since the start of Marchย  against a Derby County side who are very much still threatened with relegation.

Cooper admitted that the game didn’t really come to life until the Swans went a goal down shortly after half time but would have been pleased that goals from Morgan Whittaker and Connor Roberts gave the team three points and moved us up to fourth place in the table.

A point now at Watford next weekend will see us secure that 4th place finish which will mean home advantage in the second leg of the play off semi finals which now looks more likely to be against Bournemouth than either Brentford or Barnsley.

With Brentford having secured third place this afternoon and it taking a minor miracle for Barnsley to overtake us we have at least avoided a second successive two legged semi final against Brentford which I guess is another positive to take from today’s game.

Speaking via the club’s official website after the game, Cooper saidย โ€œWe did not start the second half well, conceding a poor goal, but the reaction was good and we played better.

โ€œWe have come back from one down, and we have won at home, which was important as we have dropped too many points here, and conceded late goals.

โ€œSo it was good to see out the win, we also had young players coming on and getting good minutes under their belts like Morgan – who scored – Ollie Cooper, Liam Cullen and Brandon Cooper at the end.

โ€œThere were loads of good returns for us from that.โ€
