Wayne Rooney could see his Derby County side relegated next weekend after they were the victims of a Swansea fightback at the Liberty Stadium which saw the Swans move past the eighty point barrier thanks to goals from Morgan Whittaker and Connor Roberts.
It must have hurt Rooney and Derby more to know that the all important first Swans goal was scored by a player that they were “forced” to sell in the January transfer window and his goal could indirectly lead to his employers falling into League One for next season.
The Rams will go down if they are beaten by Sheffield Wednesday next Saturday at Pride Park and Rooney was under no illusion as to what his side need to improve on when he spoke to Rams TV after the game at the Liberty.
โAs I have said to the players in the dressing room; I canโt fault their effort – but we have to stop giving these goals away.
โIt is almost a replica of games that we have played hover the last few weeks. I thought we deserved to get something out of the game today, but a few minutes where we conceded two goals has really cost us.
โIt is the same thing every week and we must react better to conceding a goal.”
It is now six straight defeats for Rooney and Derby and just one win in thirteen that sees them on the edge ahead of the final round of fixtures next Saturday.
