Byers – Portsmouth didn’t give me a chance

George Byers has returned to Swansea after his loan spell at Portsmouth and has bemoaned the chance that he never got the opportunity to show what he could do at Fratton Park.

The midfielder joined the promotion chasing Portsmouth in the January transfer window but they failed to make the play offs to win a place in the Championship and as such his loan spell has ended meaning he now has to sit and watch the Swans embark on our own play off campaign.

Byers future at the Liberty will be under doubt after his loan spell at Portsmouth and it has been suggested already that the club would be prepared to listen to offers for the player who has not had a real chance in the team since his injury last season.

It has been a frustrating time for Byers who was signed by former Swans boss Kenny Jackett at Portsmouth but saw him leave the club shortly after to be replaced by Danny Cowley.

Byers posted his thoughts on his Twitter account when he said “My loan at Portsmouth has come to an end.ย  A frustrating time for me as I didn’t get an opportunity to really show what I can do on the pitch.

“Coming in and out of the team doesn’t allow you to be free flowing and play your best footie.ย  However this is football I have no regrets in my time here.ย  I managed to learn a lot about myself as a person which has made me hungrier to kick on and achieve.

“A massive thank you to the players and staff for making me feel welcome as soon as I cam.ย  I’m gutted I didn’t have the chance to play in front of a full Fratton Park but I felt your support through social media and I’m grateful for that.

“I wish the club nothing but the best for the future.ย  PUP.”
