We are at that time of year where it is difficult to distinguish at times between an agent trying to drum up interest in his player or genuine interest in making a transfer move and one of those stories is the reported interest of Celtic in Freddie Woodman.

It was interesting that the story broke in the Chronicle in Newcastle rather than in Glasgow which suggests the work of an agent is involved although the paper also reports that Celtic were interested in taking him back in 2018 before he moved instead on loan to Aberdeen.

Woodman was dropping hints yesterday that he was not completely ruling out a longer stay at Swansea but if there is truth in the stories that Celtic and Southampton are interested it would be fair to say that the Swans have more than stiff competition for his signature, especially given our failure in Saturday’s play off final.

Glasgow live adds “Celtic have done well out of loaning goalkeepers from Newcastle in the past. Fraser Forster established himself at Celtic before winning a big money move to Southampton,” which has some level of irony given Southampton are also reported to be intersted.

This one does feel as if it may have the hand of an agent pushing along interest but let’s wait and see.
