Swans join the race for Wigan youngster

It’s an interesting race that includes Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United, Rangers, Celtic and Newcastle United.ย  Not so much a race but more a list of potential suitors for a player that is clearly destined to move on this summer.

You would also have to say that in a list of those clubs the only thing that would make Joseph move towards South Wales would be more of a chance of first team football although interestingly there has been some speculation that he could make a Spurs move and be loaned out immediately for his further development.ย  Could that be where we come in?

Josephโ€™s contract at the DW Stadium expires this summer following a brilliant breakthrough season with the Latics. He helped Wigan secure an unlikely survival in difficult circumstances for the club, scoring five goals in 20 appearances.

Being out of contract, Swansea would not have to pay a transfer fee for the forward. However, as he is under the age of 24, they would have to agree on a compensation deal with Wigan.

We are not alone in the Championship in showing an interest – Sheffield United and Preston North End are also linked which just adds to the competition for the player.ย  Wales Online report that the Swans were interested in January whilst the Daily Record has previously quoted that Celtic were closing in on signing him.

File under a definite interest and very much a possibility.
