Manager’s pride in Swans success

When you have seen your side complete a league and cup double it is little surprise that you have huge pride in your team and that is certainly the case for Swans Ladies boss Colin Staples as he reflected back on a strange season in the Ladies game.

Whilst most of the discussion over the past few days has – rightly so – been around some of the farcical decisions taken by the FAW in their restructure of the game, it shouldn’t take away from the success on the pitch of the Swans Ladies over the past few months.

A 0-0 draw with Abergavenny on Sunday was enough to secure a League and Cup double for the team who conceded just three goals all season which included an incredible just 1 goal conceded in their 16 league games.

Add to that a Champions League appearance earlier in the season and excitement is already starting to build within the camp for next term but not before they reflect on what they have achieved in a season that was halted before Christmas due to the lockdown situation.

“We have just won the national league and the national league cup and we are going to Europe; not many people get that opportunity,โ€ he told the club’s official website.

โ€œThe season has been a massive learning curve with myself coming in and the players needing to adapt to my thoughts and the other way round, as well.

โ€œIt has been a progressive season and I think you canโ€™t ask for more than what we have done.

โ€œWe have won both trophies we were able to compete for, and in the Champions League we did ourselves and Wales proud in our game out in Cyprus.

โ€œIt has been a long season and I couldnโ€™t be prouder. We have had our ups and downs both on and off the pitch but that is what happens.

โ€œI said to the players last week, in families you have your arguments and you have your make ups.

โ€œAt the end of the day, it all comes together and they eventually come out smiling.โ€
