It is starting to look increasingly likely that the Swans are closing in on a deal to bring Freddie Woodman back to the Liberty Stadium after two strong seasons from the keeper on loan.

The keeper himself has been dropping some social media hints about a return to South Wales particularly with Swans captain Matt Grimes and kitman Michael Eames and now it is being stated in the North East that the keeper will be back on his way here after talks between the two sides.

Woodman himself dropped the biggest hint almost immediately after the play off final wehn he saidย โ€œItโ€™s probably been the best two years of my life playing here. Iโ€™ve fallen in love with the place and developed so much

โ€œI just wanted to get over the line for the city; I know how much they wanted us in that big league, so Iโ€™m absolutely gutted.

โ€œI hope this isnโ€™t the last game I play in a Swansea shirt.”

Woodman was last season’s Championship golden glove winner and his return would give some consistency to the Swans defence that was much praised last season for the number of clean sheets and strong performances put in.ย  ย It would also mean some good strong competition for the first choice position with Steven Benda coming back from injury but it is starting to look clearer that Woodman will be the man to remove from that position as the talks continue and look like progressing towards the completion that the Swans want.

Woodman has also been linked with a move to Celtic this summer and it has also been suggested that Newcastle would look to hold onto him but the keeper’s desire for regular first team football make Swansea the most likely destination and this appears to be heading that way.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.

5 thought on “Swans and Newcastle United close to agreeing Woodman switch?”
  1. Lots of clubs are after Freddie inc Arsenal and Everton, however he want to play every week and loves South Wales so why not…

  2. Mainly cause he is too big for the swans unfortunately if a big team like arsenal or Everton are interested he is going to one of them

  3. Im guessing ( as has been reported) he will be part of the deal that brings Willock back ..fingers crossed .
Great keeper but he isnt going to be first choice for a few years yet at Newcastle so I would rather cash in now ..

  4. He’s great, loves the club and area. and why not not, Swansea is a beautiful place and the people friendly. The fans love him too, so it makes sense to stick with what you know. I suspect this happens a lot with players as they grow and put down roots: sometimes a club is just the right fit. It isn’t always about money.
