Last weekend we had news that Sheffield Wednesday were keeping an eye on Swans midfielder George Byers and today we have news that their captain Barry Bannan is someone that the Swans would like to bring to South Wales.
Bannan signed a two year contract last season and was handed the captain’s armband as Darren Moore’s side came close, but were ultimately unable, to avoid relegation from the Championship at the end of the season.
Bannan has already dropped hints about his future and claimed that Hillsbrough is ‘not a great place to be’ which has alerted the Swans, as well as a couple of others clubs, to the possibility of a move.
Moore is hoping to build a squad capable of an immediate return to the Championship next season and has plans to do that around Bannan but any concrete interest could see those plans change and Bannan move on as he approaches the last few years of his career.
Speaking last month to BBC Radio Scotland, Bannan saidย โIโve got two years left, I signed a new deal there last season. Weโll just see what happens, I think we start back on Friday. Iโm just looking forward to getting back, Iโm keeping myself fit.
โGo back and see what happens from there. Itโs a bit up in the air at the minute, thereโs a lot of people leaving behind the scenes and so itโs not a great place to be at the minute.
โBut once I get back in on Friday and have talks, Iโll find out what Iโm going to be doing next season.โ
They were comments that made the Examiner claim “Bannan’s comments are reflective of the dark clouds that reside over Hillsborough, and his honesty has been praised by supporters, his words have only added to Moore’s ever-growing list of problems.”
The Swans continue to watch developments closely and a move could also depend on the latest situation regards Matt Grimes as well who remains a wanted man
Bannan has already confirmed there is no release clause in his contract and has stated in the past he will stay despite the relegation last season.ย ย However, given events at the club this summer his frustration is clear and this has alerted the Swans as well as other interested clubs.
this is a bs story. that quote from bannan was at least a month ago, before our transfer embaro was lifted. BB is going nowhere.
