Is former Sheffield United boss in the hunt?

Interesting developments in the last couple of hours have linked former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder with the Swans managerial job – speculation which increased as his former assistant Alan Knill was confirmed to have left Bramall Lane earlier today.

A short but simple statement from Sheffield United stated “United can confirm that Alan Knill has left the club, by mutual consent.

“Assistant manager since 2016, the paperwork has been completed in the last 24 hours to enable him to leave Bramall Lane with immediate effect.

“The board would like to thank Alan for his hard work and wish him well for the future.”

This prompted immediate speculation that he was about to link up with Wilder again and GlobalNews247 immediately stated that sources at the Liberty Stadium had suggested that the pair were being lined up to replace Steve Cooper who left last week.

The Swans have already been turned down by both John Eustace and Russell Martin and are keen to bring to a close the managerial hunt and Wilder has experience of leading a side into the Premier League – a feat he achieved with the Blades two years ago.

Wilder’s name has been linked on the edges of the managerial hunt up to this point but now it is seemingly stronger and with the Swans maybe missing out on earlier targets there could be something in this.

Knill of course is a former Swans defender and someone who will know the club reasonably well.

Who knows…
