The Swans interested in Manchester United man James Garner has been known for some time now after it was reported almost a month ago that we were still keeping an eye on progress with him at Old Trafford having initially been linked last summer.
The change in management could easily have thrown it off course but it now seems that the appointment of Russell Martin could bring us to the front of the queue for Garner who is the subject of interest from a host of clubs both in the Championship and the Premier League.
A tweet yesterday from football insights suggested that we were “Confident of landing James Garner from Manchester United” citing the good relationship that Russell Martin has with Darren Fletcher.

The strong relationship between Martin and Fletcher grew when Darren Fletcher was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a condition that Martin had been diagnosed with a few years previous.
Martin’s condition was not as serious as that of his international team mate but it was a watershed moment for the Swans boss.ย He became a strict vegan as he explained in this interview during his time at Rangersย โIโve found something that works for me,โ said Martin in 2018. โMy body fat is as low as Iโve ever been.
โPhysically I feel really good. That has been the frustrating thing. Usually when you are out of the first team for that length of time it is because of an injury. I havenโt been injured, Iโve just been training hard.
โI donโt have to take medication and I havenโt needed an operation. Unfortunately, Darren Fletcher did, so I have been lucky. I was diagnosed first and then it became public that Fletch was struggling with it, so I made contact with him then.”
That contact has kept the two former team mates in close contact and, if the tweet is to be believed, that could be something that could prove beneficial to the Swans especially if they could land one of their transfer targets having seemingly been out of the race.
