It looks like someone may have let an accidental cat out of the bag earlier today with the swansea.com website proudly declaring their sponsorship of the stadium which would carry the Swansea name after 16 years as the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea.com – one of shareholder Martin Morgan’s businesses – have previously been a shirt sponsor for the Swans in the League One title winning season and a post made on their website – and now removed read “The owners of Swansea.com have been Swansea City fans for over 50 years.ย  They’ve followed the club through thick and thin to over 150 different football grounds supporting and cheering on their team.ย  Its an honour to continue our involvement with Swansea City and the stadium being named after our great and wonderful City, Swansea.”

The page on the website was changed not long after it was leaked online but by that point it seemed that the cat was out of the bag with little reason to doubt that the name change is indeed in the offing.

The Liberty Stadium has just passed its 16th anniversary since opening in 2005 and has contained the Liberty name throughout all that period.ย  There were discussions during the latter years of our Premier League status to get a new sponsor but any deal that was close to completion fell through when the club were relegated and the potential exposure of sponsors was dramatically reduced.

We await official confirmation.
