“We want you to stay” were the chants from the travelling Jack Army at Reading last evening as they made their views clear on the Swans captain Matt Grimes with his future still uncertain after a summer of speculation.

Grimes has been linked with a move to several clubs this summer and it was reported over a week ago that he was on the verge of completing a move to Fulham but he still remains a Swansea player and that is increasing speculation that he could be persuaded to extend his time at the Swans beyond his current deal.

And Head Coach Russell Martin admits – albeit tongue in cheek – that he joined in with the chants towards the captain.  Speaking to Wales Online after the match Martin said “I joined in, anyone who sits in this chair and says, a player of that calibre, if they want him to leave then they’d be crazy.

“He really suits what we’re doing, mentally with his character, with his attitude and his courage on the ball. Technically, he could play in any team.

“So nothing’s changed really with Grimesy. We want to keep him. We’ll have to see how that pans out.”
