Kevin Nisbet – The £5m “bid” for Hibs striker that wasn’t?

Sometimes you suspect foul play with some reporting that takes press in the main stream media and it seems that it was likely agent speak that was talking up the Swans interest in Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet yesterday as the Daily Record reported a £5m bid.

The Daily Record reported yesterday afternoon that the Swans had tabled a bid of £5m which met the valuation of the Easter Road club but something never quite rang true as it is difficult to see the Swans placing a bid of that magnitude in this transfer window.

The Scottish Media outlet suggested that PLZ Soccer were making the suggestion but you do wonder how much of this is agent talk to either talk up interest in a proven player at SPL level or just something to force Hibs hand in any new contract negotiations.

Either way it only took less than an hour for the Edinburgh Evening News to dismiss the reports clearly stating that Hibs had received no contact from Swansea City.   So it became reasonably clear that without a formal bid there was no progression to be made on the discussions.  Or at least not at this point in time.

Nisbet was the subject of a £3m bid from Birmingham in the January transfer window and it is now believed that Hibs would need a bid near the reported £5m if they were to consider letting him go.

The Swans could have some cash to spare if reports of departures of Matt Grimes, Connor Roberts and Jamal Lowe are to be believed but is difficult to see all of that budget being blown on one player.

A player we are interested in?  For certain.  A player we are likely to get?  Not very in my view.

And interesting to see very conflicting reports in Scotland, tells you much I think.
