Russell Martin is clearly a man enjoying himself at the moment as he watched his side be quick out of the blocks last night, scoring twice within the opening twelve minutes for the second game running to secure a victory that moved the Swans to within a point of the top 6 places in the division.
Goals from Jamie Paterson and Joel Piroe opened up a two goal advantage which Coventry halved during a frantic first half but it was a second half which the Swans manager believes they gained back control which eventually gave us the vital 2-1 win that sends us in confident mood into Saturday’s top of the table clash at Bournemouth.
Martin though was praising of Coventry detailing them the most aggressive opponents we have faced so far and slightly disappointed to have conceded the goal that we did straight from the corner.ย ย His post match comments are a sign of a manager who is always looking for improvements from his team and that will bode well not just into Saturday but for the games that follow that after the international break.
Speaking to the press after the game, Martin saidย “We came out of the traps brilliantly. So much energy, intensity and aggression.
“We were playing against a really good team with a brilliant home record, a team that have had a lot of time with the coaching staff, who are excellent and we have a lot of respect for.
“We could have had a couple more goals early on, and it was really frustrating to concede the goal we did.
“We’ve been really strong at defensive set-pieces, so it’s really disappointing because if we go in at half-time 2-0 up, it feels a little bit different.
“The end of the first half, it was tough for us. They were 2-1 down at home, nothing to lose, they’re probably the most aggressive team we’ve played against.
“But I thought in the second half we really gained control back and then they had a flurry at the end which you expect, and we showed much courage and bravery to try and play the way we want to play. Ben Hamer in particular, some of the decisions he made were incredible.”
