Steve Cooper was very coy at the weekend when asked about links with Jay Fulton who is widely expected to be a transfer target for Nottingham Forest in the January window although there are starting to be rumblings that there may be competition for his services.
Fulton has pretty much been frozen out at Swansea City this season to an extent that he did not even feature last week in a behind closed doors friendly against Brentford which pretty much sealed the fact that he is off in January although his destination now may be open to some debate.
Forest we know are a team that are interested due to Fulton’s relationship with Steve Cooper from their time together at Swansea but there are now suggestions that other clubs – at this stage though they are reported as “unknown” – are interested in potentially signing the midfielder with his Swansea career seemingly over.
The fact that they are “unknown” clubs tells you that is likely to be manufactured interest (or no interest at all) designed by agents/representatives to drum up speculation (and potential fees and wages) for their players but it should never be dismissed as plenty of clubs would look at an established Championship midfield player at the midway point of the season.
Cooper, after watching his side comfortably defeat the Swans 4-1 at the weekend was not to be drawn on his potential move for Fulton when he said “Weโve got a lot of midfield players here. Iโm fond of all the players here. I donโt want to talk too much about someone elseโs player.โ
He also added that he did not have an opinion on Fulton’s lack of game time at Swansea – or at least not a public one – as he was questioned slightly further on the midfielder.
He though will be as interested as anyone else whether this suggested interest will materialise into anything specific as the window gets closer and it is very much a case still of watch this space as far as the future of Fulton goes.
