As was widely expected the Swans’ New Year clash at home to Fulham has become our fourth consecutive match to fall victim to a rise in Covid cases across the country.
As with the Luton game that was scheduled for last night, this postponement was due to an outbreak within our own squad and the news was broken on the official website with the statement that “It is due to a considerable number of positive COVID-19 cases within the playing squad.
“The club has worked hard to try and ensure it would be able to fulfil the fixture, however, the amount of positive cases means the club do not have a sufficient amount of players available for selection.”
No date has yet been made for the rearranged fixture – one of four that the Swans need to reschedule now following visits to QPR and Millwall and the aforementioned Luton game that was also postponed.
The club statement addedย that “no streaming service or refunds are eligible to season ticket holders and season hospitality guests for these fixtures as the games will be rescheduled at a time where we hope to welcome back fans to the Swansea.com Stadium. It is important to note that we have not received any further guidance on this. Any supporter that requested a refund for the Luton Town and Fulham fixtures has now had their request put on hold pending further advice.”
This postponement means that the Swans will go more than a month between league fixtures with the next scheduled game due to be at Huddersfield on January 15 although we have a scheduled FA Cup tie against Southampton at home set for January 8.
