Lincoln City’s desire made Cullen’s decision easy

Liam Cullen chose Lincoln over the likes of Portsmouth yesterday and completed a loan spell to join up with Morgan Whittaker for the rest of the season and hopefully gain the first team football that could benefit the Swans in the long run.

The striker has been traditionally used in a short substitute appearance role at Swansea and both club and player felt that a loan move away would benefit him.ย  ย Whether that loan move leads to a more regular slot at Swansea at the end remains to be seen and will be dictated by the success of Cullen at Lincoln, a club generating a reputation as a good place for young talent to develop.

Whittaker has put in two impressive performances for the Imps since his move earlier this month and fans of both clubs will be hoping for much the same from Cullen now he has made the move.

Speaking to the official site after officially completing the move yesterday, Cullen said “The interest has been there for a while and once I was told that I was allowed to go out on loan I got up here as soon as I could.

“There were other clubs interested but none showed the desire that Lincoln did, which is why I’m here. I know the club and have some old friends here so was keen to come.

“The reputation the club has for developing players is brilliant. They are a young team who like to play football; a style of play that will suit me really well and hopefully I can hit the ground running.

“I’m really excited. I’ve heard a lot about the fans, especially the 617 Squadron in the corner, so I’m looking to getting out there in front of them.”

Cullen is expected to be straight into the squad for their weekend clash at home to Cambridge.
