With both the BBC and the Athletic reporting that Jamie Paterson missed yesterday’s game due to a contractual dispute it will not have gone unnoticed at The Hawthorns at a minimum with Stuart James at the Athletic already tweeting it looks like he will be sold in January.
Whilst the speculation has been all window around whether someone will be sold it looks like the answer is yes and it looks like it could be Paterson who triggered a contract extension just seven days ago after a hugely impressive first six months under Russell Martin.
Jamie Paterson was an absentee from yesterday’s game with reasons given as Covid related but both publications are now reporting that this was down to him telling the club he is “not in the right frame of mind to play.”
The BBC Report says “Swansea are not commenting on the situation, while BBC Sport Wales has contacted Paterson’s representatives, Unique Sports Group, for comment.”
West Brom have already been linked with a move for Paterson with another Championship club also interested and it is being suggested that part of the reason for Paterson’s unhappiness is driven by him still being one of the club’s lower earners or at least earning less than the top paid players at the club.
This news will alert other clubs without a doubt that there maybe a deal to be struck for Paterson who would now command a transfer fee for the Swans which could be used to fund a move for someone like Matt O’Riley at MK Dons who otherwise maybe outside of our budgets.
Could this be a significant twist in the January window and one that none of us really saw coming?
If he doesn’t want to play for the club, let him go, and keep Jay Fulton. We gave Paterson a chance, now he thinks he’s better than he is.
