Russell Martin has defended the failed pursuit of Matt O’Riley.
He confirmed that the club were actively interested in the player, but again reiterated that funds must come in before spending on any player.
“Iโve been aware all of the way through, we have to raise money to make signings,” Martin said at today’s press conference.
“Itโs been clear since the summer. Weโre not swimming in the same pond that we were, parachute payments have gone.
“Someoneโs been able to raise the finance. He was a target for us (O’Riley) of course. He fits the profile and a player weโve worked with.
“But there were other clubs looking at him as well. I donโt feel let down or angry, itโs where we are at. Iโm comfortable with that.
“The business weโve done I think is fantastic. Cyrus is going to help us, you saw that on Saturday.
“Benโs [Hamer] performance was raised with Fish in the building.
“And now you have Hannes who came because of the way we played and what weโve discussed. Whatever happens, I think weโre going to end up stronger.”
