Could we move again for Brentford winger?

Could the Swans be lining up a January window loan move for Brentford winger Tariqe Fosu after a similar move for the player stalled at the last minute back in the summer.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has suggested he could be available for loan after making just two appearances – both in the EFL cup – for the Bees this season following their promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season.

The Swans looked set to sign Fosu last summer but the move fell through at the last minute when captain Matt Grimes remained at the club despite speculation all window that he would move on.ย  ย It was reported that Fosu had driven all the way to Swansea to make the move only to be told it was off although the player himself denied on social media that he actually had done that.

The Swans have since strengthened their midfield with the arrival this month of Hannes Wolf but with uncertainty around the future of Jamie Paterson it could be that Fosu is identified as a target to replace him.ย  Similarly, with uncertainty also around the short term future of Michael Obafemi attacking options could well be at the forefront of Russell Martin’s mind this week.

Press reports in Ghana this weekend suggest that the Swans would be interested although it could be that this is lazy links due to our previous interest.ย  However, it will not have gone unnoticed at Swansea this weekend that Thomas Frank said the player could be allowed to leave on loan this month.

Fosu has recently recovered from a hamstring injury and Frank told West London Sportย โ€œIt (recovering from injury) could be a fresh start for him but it could also be that he should go out on loan.

โ€œWe need to re-assess. We have 11 days left of the transfer window to see where he is. It could be a bit of both.โ€

On this particular move it is difficult to see why the Swans would go for him right now given the reasons for the summer move not being completed.ย  However with attacking options currently limited – and potentially becoming more limited this week – then a move for Fosu could make logical sense as the week develops.ย  ย We wait and see.
