Martin refuses to rule out move for Watford man – Thursday press conference

Swans boss Russell Martin has refused to be drawn on the speculation linking the club to a move for Watford’s Domingos Quina, currently on loan at Fulham.

The press (see here) have been linking Swansea with a move for the winger who is set to have his loan move terminated at Championship leaders Fulham after failing to break into the first team at Craven Cottage.

Quina, a 22 year old Portuguese U21 international, joined Watford from West Ham and was brought up in the Benfica and Chelsea academies before joining the Hammers as a 17 year old.

The winger is recognised as someone with serious pace; something which all fans recognise as one of Swansea’s areas for improvement.

Whether a move will happen before Monday we will soon see, although Martin at least recognised that Quina was “a good player, but not our player” – does that give the rumour some legs? You decide!

Speaking in today’s press conference ahead of the match at Hull, he told Wales Online: “I think there’s loads of players on our radar. Heโ€™s a good player but heโ€™s not our player.

“Weโ€™ve already been linked with lots of people, some that weโ€™ve not even discussed in the building, some that we have.

“That will continue between now and Monday. All that matters is the people that are in here by 11pm on Monday.

“Iโ€™m sure thereโ€™ll be interest in some of our players and players who havenโ€™t played as much football as theyโ€™d have liked

“I think there’s a couple of key positions we need to add strength and depth in. That hasnโ€™t changed.

“We’re creating a really good amount of chances in most games and having a lot of the ball, spending a lot of time in the opposition third, but we need to make more of it, there’s no doubt about it.

“We have a clear idea of what we want to do and how we want to do it. There is some finance available but there might have to be more freed up for us to go and do what we really want to do.”
