The future of Jamie Paterson may not yet be finalised but it is a clear stance from Swansea City that says if he leaves, he leaves on his terms as was revealed by Russell Martin when speaking to the press yesterday.

Paterson has been out of favour at the Swans for the past two weeks and has missed the three games since we returned to league action through not being in the right frame of mind.ย  ย Russell Martin has been equally clear in his view in the past that he would welcome Paterson back into the fold should he be able to return and you just know that the Swans boss wants his summer signing to stay at the club.

The stand-off between club and player was always going to attract interest from other clubs given Paterson’s excellent form in the first half of the season and it seems that is the case although it does appear that it has attracted some opportunist interest from other clubs who seem to think that we may trade on the cheap.

QPR, Huddersfield and West Brom have all been linked with a move for Paterson this morning although the interest from Albion is said to have waned due to his actions over refusing to play for the Swans.

Martin though is clear that his view – and that of the club – is that Paterson does have a price on his head and unless that is met then there is no consideration – or desire – for the club to sell.

No bids have been received for Paterson yet but it is clear that some discussions have taken place with clubs over his availability “Thereโ€™s been a discussion or two,” Martin told Wales Online.

“A few clubs chancing their arm to see if heโ€™s available for no money or very little money, which isnโ€™t the case because of how well heโ€™s done here and heโ€™s on an 18-month contract now.”

It does feel more likely that Paterson will be here come the close of the window rather than not but, as ever, time will tell on what happens next.
