Could Newcastle’s Jamal Lewis solve our left back dilemma

As the Swans are becoming increasingly frustrated at their ability to bring in a left wing back in this window then could they be thrown a late lifeline with the news that Newcastle could be open to letting Jamal Lewis leave on loan in the window.

The Swans let Jake Bidwell join Coventry earlier in the window in the hope that they could bring in a suitable replacement but Wales Online reported at lunchtime that belief we could get someone was waning in SA1.

However, news may have come through in the North East that could give us an option if we wanted to pursue it and that is the fact that Newcastle are said to be prepared to let Lewis leave on loan following the arrival in the North East of Matt Target.

Whilst preferences within Swansea are around permanent deals – or loans with a view to permanent deals – this could be the lifeline that we need to bring a quality left back into the club.

Lewis has made just 5 Premier League appearances for Newcastle this season and joined them from Norwich in September 2020 for ยฃ15m and aย  five year deal.

At the time Lewis said “It was a little bit unexpected but it was something that I was obviously looking forward to when I heard that there was serious interest, so I’m delighted to be here now

“Newcastle’s such a great club with such history and I knew it was an opportunity I would love to take with both hands.”

Given our frustration on getting a replacement in for Bidwell, surely this is something we should this afternoon be seriously considering given the desperate need to bring someone in?

Time I guess will, as ever, tell.
