There were a few eyebrows raised amongst the Swansea City support when Steven Benda left the club on loan in January with Russell Martin clearly preferring first Ben Hamer and now his own January signing in Andy Fisher to Benda in between the sticks.
A loan move was probably the only outcome when we signed Fisher but with the plaudits coming the way of Benda at Peterborough then questions will continue to be asked as to the logic of bringing in someone when it appears we may have had a more than adequate player already at the club.
Benda started the season in between the sticks but was soon replaced by Hamer and had not featured in the league for the Swans since August before his departure last month.ย 9 appearances for Posh may not have yielded a strong record of just two clean sheets and two league points out of twenty-four but he was given the credit yesterday evening for a good display against Fulham despite being on the wrong end of yet another defeat.
โSteven Benda was outstanding. When we needed him he was brilliant,” said Posh caretaker manager Matthew Etherington
โAfter the game I just asked the players not to give up, because if you put performances in like that we still have a chance and I defy anyone to tell me any different.โ
Benda has been beaten fifteen times in his eight league appearances for a Peterborough side who are eight points adrift from the safety mark in the Championship and looking almost certain to be relegated to League One come the end of the season.
