Manning appeal fails – four match ban including Cardiff game

Swansea City have failed in their appeal against the red card shown to defender Ryan Manning in the 5-1 mauling by Fulham on Tuesday.

Manning was dismissed after a tackle on Harry Wilson and it always felt like a decision that was unlikely to be overturned, however subjective the views are on whether the red card was correct.

It is his second dismissal of the season which extended the suspension from the normal three game ban to four.

It means he will now start his four game ban against Blackpool this weekend and will miss the Cardiff City game, which will be his final suspension match.

It will come as a loss to Russell Martin who has preferred using Manning in the left centre half berth to provide the balance of a left footer alongside Naughton and Cabango.

โ€œWe found out [Ryanโ€™s] appeal was unsuccessful on Thursday. Iโ€™m not overly surprised but we had some hope that it would be overturned,โ€ the Swans boss told the media today ahead of the Blackpool trip.

โ€œItโ€™s disappointing for him because he has to miss four games now and itโ€™s disappointing for us because heโ€™s been excellent, but I think heโ€™ll learn from this.”

The news is likely to see Finley Burns or Ryan Bennett reintroduced for the immediate future at least.
